Buddy Walk 2018 is Here!

Buddy Walk® 2018 will be held this year at the Gulfport Sportsplex on October 20th.  On line pre-registration for teams and individuals will begin August 25th. Walk in registration will begin at 3:00 p.m. on the evening of Saturday, October 20th, however, we encourage you to register on line in advance to be guaranteed a shirt for this year’s walk - shirts are first come first serve so get your orders in early. Walk will begin at approximately 4:00 p.m. Can we make 3,000 walkers this year? Help us make this happen.

Join us for a Fun Walk in Support of GCDSS

Join us for the one-mile fun walk and festivities! NO registration fee is required to participate, but there is a $5 suggested donation to cover the cost of the t-shirt. You can walk as an individual or create your own team! Ask your family members, co-workers, teachers, classmates, friends and church family to join you. The top three with the most walkers present will be recognized. Although fundraising is optional, donations help support our mission!

4:00pmWelcome/Introduction of Guests and Grand Marshalls

 Presentation of colors and National Anthem — followed by a One Mile Fun Walk around the fields

 Reconvene at stage for Entertainment

5:00pmPresentation of medals to the individuals with Down syndrome.

5:00pmPresentation of trophies to the top three teams of most individual walkers

6:00pmHope you enjoyed the fun!! See you and your buddies next year.


About The Buddy Walk

The Buddy Walk® was established in 1995 by the National Down Syndrome Society to celebrate Down Syndrome Awareness Month in October and to promote acceptance and inclusion of people with Down syndrome. Today, the Buddy Walk® program is supported nationally by NDSS and organized at the local level by parent support groups, schools and other organizations and individuals.

Over the past twenty-one years, the Buddy Walk® program has grown from 17 walks to more than 300 expected in 2018 across the country and around the world. Last year alone, 315,000 people participated in a Buddy Walk®! They raised $13 million to benefit national education, research and advocacy initiatives, as well as local programs. These funds enable NDSS and local groups to offer services that support and enhance the quality of life for individuals with Down syndrome and their families.

The Buddy Walk® is a one-mile walk in which anyone can participate without special training. It is a wonderful, heart-warming event that celebrates the many abilities and accomplishments of people with Down syndrome. Whether you have Down Syndrome, know someone who does, or just want to show your support, come and join us for our Buddy Walk®!
